Warehouse Technician I

Department: Shipping & Receiving
Reports To: Warehouse Manager and/or Warehouse Assistant Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY
Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Pick and pack products to fill orders.

Shipping packages via the shipping computer.

Restock shelves with products and packaging products with supplies, as time allows.

Check in and restock returned products.

Assist with the unloading of trucks.

Assist with the receiving incoming shipments, as time allows.

Keep the warehouse clean and orderly at all times.

Operates forklift or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.  (All personnel must be trained and certified prior to operating the forklift.)

When the workload is slow the employee is responsible for checking with the Manager or Assistant Manager for additional things to do.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Computer or typing skills are beneficial in performing this job.  On the job training will be provided.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be trained and certified in the operation of the forklift prior to operation.

Must be trained and must have passed the hazardous materials test in order to pack hazardous materials for shipping.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and climb or balance.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.  The specific vision requirements listed above are necessary to this position in order to pick and pack products, and also to drive the forklift in a manner as to avoid injury to themselves or others.

SCHEDULE
The schedule for this position is 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.  Overtime, when necessary, will be assigned on a voluntary basis.  However, in those situations where there are insufficient volunteers, or during periods of especially heavy workloads, mandatory overtime may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places i.e. climbing a ladder to reach higher products.  There is a very slight risk of working with  small amount of flammable or corrosive products while packing.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
